Friday 26th April – canoe *** Le Lac du Villefort - cloudy with rain :(
A bit dull for our exercises this morning but still quite warm. Lovely with birds in the trees and a huge buzzard flying over :) Thought the weather was going to break out but instead it did actually get more miserable :( Still we had decided we would take the canoe out onto Lac Villefort and we did:) Drove up to the next car park where there is a slipway and set out just before it started to drizzle. There was another group of lucky school kids climbing and having a great laugh on the adventure course built into the rocks on the opposite side of the lake. It was really extreme with walkways over ravines, pegs in the rock to climb up and a zip wire etc. We canoed to the right and went up to the foot of waterfalls and past the chateau we went to yesterday. It was great fun and despite the weather we really enjoyed it. We went back past where the van was parked round an island and under the railway bridge. We slalomed around the bridge supports then back to the van for lunch and a warm with the diesel heater! We read for a while then went to the same shops as yesterday to stock up because we have realised there is no big town around for the next few days and if we are lucky and the weather improves we are planning going up to the mountains tomorrow. Drove along the beautiful gorge to Pied de Borne (foot of the river borne) which was really lovely. Three rivers meet here including the one going through the gorge we were at a couple of days ago. We filled up with water and went for a walk to a waterfall and mill (as it had stopped raining for a while!). Drove back to park by the river a little way out of the village, ate cake and did more reading Had tea listening to the rain on the roof:)
